HOW DID THE LOCKDOWNS AFFECT YOU?
Loss of employment:
I was sacked from my position as Secondary Teacher for challenging the mask mandates in schools in South Australia. Under the EMA instituted in SA, part 8, section 22 stated that all schools were exempt from mask wearing. However, staff and students were required by principal and school association order to wear them. I directed students, staff and the school association (Association of Independents Schools SA [AISSA]) to the act and refused to wear a mask. As a result, I was sacked by the school principal for ‘serious and wiful misconduct’. My sacking included false allegations that I was abusive and threatening to the principal based on a very frank discussion and disagreement we had about the law and the welfare of the student body. When I asked AISSA to apologise to all schools under their jurisdiction for incorrectly informing them of the law, the chief executive, Carolyn Grantskalns, responded to my email with “I think we see this issue differently” and indicated there would be no such apology.
Loss of freedom:
Like many Australians, I lost my freedom due to the EMA. I was unable to worship in my local church, coach my local football team nor allow my children to play community sport. As a result of not taking the ‘vaccine’, I was restricted from attending sporting and music events, travelling locally and interstate and was even forced to wait outside at the doctor’s surgery for medical attention.
Loss of property:
In early 2021, my wife and I demolished our family home, subdivided the land and sold it with the intention to move rurally and purchase land. Due to EMA restrictions, lockdowns, supply chain shortages and back logs occurring in the industry (the demolition company were 2 months behind schedule!), the settlement of this land took 7 months, instead of the 1-2 months it should have. By the time we received the settlement money, the value of rural land had skyrocketed and I was without a job, preventing us from buying land and building a home. As a result, we have had to rent and pay incredibly inflated rental rates since this time.
